When you’re not the most confident person in the world, you want to be able to enhance the features that you do feel more confident about, for me, this is my eyes. I tend to steer clear of the smoky eye look as pencil eyeliner loves to transfer onto my eyelids and smudge throughout the day leaving me looking like either a drag queen or a junkie, or sometimes both at the same time.
However, liquid eyeliner is a different animal entirely, it can stay on all day if you get the right one and it’s perfectly neat if you can master it, (I generally consult YouTube if I don’t know how to do something, and this was no exception for mastering the winged liner). You can get some fairly nice liners, but in my opinion, most don’t go the distance, halfway through the day they just come off. I’ve tried many different brands and types of liquid liners over the years, and in my view, you can’t go too far wrong with a felt tip liner, my current favourite is ‘Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Liner’, as it doesn’t smudge unless you’re in gale force winds and you’re eyes won’t stop leaking. I’ve tried the non-felt tip liquid liners, but most would leave clumps on my lashes when I tried to apply it. I’ve had a slapstick comedy moment with the ‘Bourjois Liner Clubbing Eyeliner Ultra Black’, I applied the liquid to my eyes and felt fairly proud of myself that I’d managed to get a good line and flick with the formula straight away…then I carried on getting ready and after some time, realised the little clumps it had left on my lashes had transferred all over my face!…so I got out the eye makeup remover and started rubbing it off, to my horror it just smudged it, bringing new meaning to ‘Panda eyes’, I could not remove it for the life of me and had to rub my face so much I got sore red patches and what looked like the worst dark circles you’ve ever seen, to be fair it did describe it’s self as semi-permanent. Apparently, It takes me a while to learn my lesson because I used it again and the same thing happened at least 3 times before I vowed to throw it in the bin.
I’ve also tried liners you get in a pot with a brush, but why on earth would you bother if you can do it all with a felt tip one? I like to add mascara too to make my eyes appear bigger, if I’m feeling fancy I might even use eyelash curlers. In my opinion, the holy grail of mascaras is L’Oreal Double Extension Beauty Tubes, you can rub or cry your eyes out and it will never smudge, however, when you take it off, it will look like all your lashes have fallen out…don’t be alarmed, the formula coats each lash and so they are actually the little tubes that formed around your lashes!! Genius!
