Body image workshops

Delivered by positive disabled role models

An innovative programme of 3-4 different mini workshops, tailored to your schools needs and appropriate for secondary school aged single sex or co-ed students.

Young people will explore various topics including self-esteem, the media’s portrayal of ‘perfection’ and nutrition and fitness. The sessions will be lead by our physically disabled and sensory impaired trainers who are positive role models and will share their stories and answer any pressing questions on the topic of disability.

Workshop programme

09:30 Start

Workshops will be on rotation throughout the day so that all students take part in all workshops

  1. Whole year assembly introducing the topics of the day and the trainers

10:00 Workshop 1: self esteem

  1. Dstudents will discuss and take part in activities relating to what self esteem means to them, what low self esteem can do to a person and techniques of raising self esteem
  2. Trainer shares personal experiences of self esteem and disability

10:45 Break

11:00 Workshop 2: The media

  1. Students explore sexist themes in the media, stereotypes of women and striving for unrealistic beauty standards alongside how the media effects aspirations
  2. Trainer discusses personal disability and how disabled people may be judged or underrepresented in the media/li>

11:45 Lunch

12:45 Workshop 3: Communication

  1. Students take part in activities linked to communication techniques, deaf awareness and how they portray themselves using body language
  2. Trainer discusses personal sensory impairment

13:30 Workshop 4: Nutrition and fitness

  1. Students learn about Nutrition and fitness including dispelling common myths related to this topic

14:15 Round up assembly with whole year

  1. Themes explored during the day are consolidated in a final session
